Win Yaw Seik Gyi River Bridge Closed for Three Days for Repairs

-

The Win Yaw River crossing bridge in Win Yaw Seik Gyi village, located on the Mudon–Abit–Three Pagodas Pass road linking Mon State and Karen State, has been closed to traffic for three days due to repair and maintenance work, according to local sources.

The bridge, which serves as a main route between Mudon town and Three Pagodas Pass, had already suffered damage to several components during last year’s rainy season, making repairs necessary.

As a result, repair work is being carried out from January 27 to January 29, during which time the bridge has been closed to vehicles.

“The bridge is badly damaged and needs repairs every year,” said a local resident involved in the repair work. “We pooled donations from travellers and villagers and bought 15 tonnes of timber. We will fix all the areas that need repair.”

During the repair period, vehicles are using an alternative route via Tankhun Taing village and Hti Paw Kloh village, local sources said.

The bridge repairs are expected to be completed within three days, after which traffic will resume as normal.

“For now, we have temporarily closed the bridge while repairs are under way,” a village official said. “Once the work is finished, we will reopen it as usual.”

Since September 2025, authorities have been collecting toll fees to fund bridge maintenance, charging 5,000 kyats for large vehicles and 3,000 kyats for small vehicles. More than 30 million kyats has been raised so far, according to local sources.
