Three residents, including two men and a nursing mother, were injured on December 2 when a mortar fired by the military junta’s Light Infantry Battalion 591 landed near a house in Kyaung Ywar village, Ye Township, according to local sources.
The clash occurred at around 11:30 a.m. outside Kyaung Ywar village between junta forces from Battalion 591 and resistance groups. During the fighting, the junta fired more than ten mortar shells, residents said.
The final round exploded near a house inside the village, injuring three people and damaging at least three houses, a local resident told IMNA.

“There was fighting that morning, and the mortar shells kept falling—maybe ten in total. The last one landed right in front of the house while they were talking at the doorway. The shrapnel hit them. Three houses were also slightly damaged,” said a person close to the injured family.
A man in his 40s suffered injuries around his eye, his 38-year-old wife, a nursing mother, was wounded on her forehead, and another man aged 53 was hit in the chest by shrapnel.
The injured villagers are receiving treatment at the local clinic, while the man with the serious eye injury has been transferred to Mawlamyine General Hospital.
Residents said the Kyaung Ywar–Ye road was temporarily blocked during the fighting and mortar shelling, but the road was reopened shortly afterwards.
“There were no checks today, but people are still very scared after the shelling. Many villagers are staying inside and avoiding travel,” a resident said.
Villages in northern Ye Township continue to face daily security threats as junta troops conduct regular patrols and frequently clash with joint resistance forces.
On November 25 and 27, three clashes were reported in Ye Township between resistance groups and junta patrols, resulting in seven junta soldiers killed and five wounded, according to the Kyaikhto People’s Defense Force.
