-

A woman was seriously injured after stepping on a landmine near Melanpharkadu village in Bilin Township, Mon State, local residents reported.

The incident occurred on November 6, when Daw Thein Win, 40, from Melankyaung village, accidentally stepped on a landmine while going to collect firewood near the village. The explosion caused severe injuries to her back, arm, and hip.

She was initially taken to Bilin Township Public Hospital and later transferred to Thaton District Public Hospital for further treatment.

“Her condition remains critical,” a local resident said.

Landmine explosions continue to pose a serious threat to civilians in Bilin Township. Although many explosions occur in remote areas, several residents have been injured or killed in recent months.

In a similar incident on October 26, an 18-year-old girl was severely injured after stepping on a landmine near Shweindon Monastery in Daukyat village, Bilin Township.
