Mon Unity Party to contest 38 constituencies in upcoming election

The Mon Unity Party (MUP), based in Mon State, will contest 38 constituencies in the upcoming 2025 election, according to official announcements.

The junta-controlled Union Election Commission released the list of parliamentary candidates on October 19.

According to the announcement, the Mon Unity Party will field candidates in 7 constituencies for the Pyithu Hluttaw, and in 12 constituencies for the Amyotha Hluttaw,  including 6 seats under the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system and 6 seats under the Proportional Representation (PR) system. For the State & Regional Hluttaws, the party will contest 20 constituencies, with 9 seats under FPTP and 10 under PR, bringing the total to 38 seats.

Prominent MUP candidates include Dr. Banyar Aung Moe, Nai San Tin, Nai Chan Twe, Mi Lawi Han, Min Saw Nwe, Daw Myint Myint Wai, Daw Myint Than, Nai Laye Tama, Nai Than Shwe, Min Aung Htoo, Min Aung Mon, Min Kyaw Khine Win, U Aung Myint Sein, Min Wanna Gyi, Nai M Saw, Nai Hla Aung, U Shwe Luu, and Nai M Chan Mon.

According to the junta’s election commission, the first phase of the election is scheduled to begin on December 28, 2025.

In Mon State, candidates from a total of eight political parties will take part in the election, including the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), National Unity Party (NUP), Pa-O National Organization (PNO), People’s Party, People’s Pioneer Party, Mon Unity Party (MUP), Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger Party), and the National Interest and Development Party (NIDP).
