Fighting broke out after the Ramonnya Mon Army (RMA) launched an attack on the military junta’s tollgate checkpoint in Hpaungsein, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, according to a statement released by the RMA.
The attack began at around 5:45 a.m. on August 22, with clashes lasting about 15 minutes. During the fighting, one junta soldier was reportedly killed and three others injured. The RMA stated that all of its troops were able to withdraw safely without casualties.
The RMA also noted that throughout August, its units, sometimes independently, and at other times alongside allied forces, had engaged the junta in at least three separate clashes in Thanbyuzayat, Ye, and Yebyu townships.
