The village administrator of Metaw Village in Kyunsu Township, Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region, Aung Myint was shot dead for allegedly collaborating with the military junta, according to sources from Battalion 2 of resistance forces in the Myeik District.
On July 5, resistance fighters attempted to arrest Aung Myint at his home, accusing him of engaging in drug trafficking, personal drug use, forced military conscription, and collecting money from village groups to support junta soldiers.
However, Aung Myint reportedly fled the scene and later returned with a group of armed men wielding sticks and blades to confront the resistance forces. In response, resistance members fired warning shots, eventually capturing Aung Myint after the group dispersed.
Later that night, around 10 p.m. on July 5, a military junta naval vessel launched an attack on the area where resistance groups were positioned. Amid the resulting confusion, Aung Myint allegedly shouted and attempted to escape, prompting resistance fighters to shoot and kill him.

“When we first tried to arrest Aung Myint, he and his group fought back with sticks and blades. We fired shots, and his followers fled. We managed to detain Aung Myint. But after the junta’s naval vessel started shelling our location and while our members were repositioning, Aung Myint tried to flee again, so we shot and killed him,” a spokesperson for Battalion 2 in Myeik District said.
Resistance forces stated that they had repeatedly warned Aung Myint to stop cooperating with the military junta, but he had continued his activities, leading to his eventual arrest and death.
A similar incident occurred on July 2 in Khamaukgyi Township, Kawthoung District, Tanintharyi Region. Resistance forces had issued multiple warnings to individuals accused of being junta informants involved in large-scale drug distribution, including a man known as Chaw Kalat from Aye Chan Thar Village and U Hla Naing, the village administrator of Seikhpu. Both allegedly ignored the warnings, prompting armed action by resistance groups.
