Junta Forces Arrest Rohingya Groups Entering Ye Coastal Area

-

According to local sources, Rohingya groups entering Mon State’s Ye Township coastline—reportedly through broker networks from Rakhine State—have frequently been detained by Myanmar junta troops and police stationed in Ye.

In April alone, 185 Rohingya were arrested by the junta after arriving via the Ye coastline. In May, over 300 were believed to have entered, and three were captured, a source close to Ye’s junta administrative team said.

Security has been tightened across coastal areas such as Asin, Andin, Duya, Thaung Pyin, and Kawdut, with ongoing searches for the remaining groups. Locals have been instructed to report any sightings of Rohingya, the source added.

“The Rohingya are entering often. This month, three were caught near Asin. Upon questioning, it was found that around 300, but only three were captured. The rest are still missing,” said the source close to the administration.

Those arrested were interrogated at Ye’s central police station and then transferred to Mawlamyine Prison. They will be sent back to Rakhine State.

On February 12th, five Rohingya who arrived by boat between Kawdut and Thaung Pyin villages in northern Ye were shot and killed by junta forces.

It is speculated that Rohingya migrants are attempting to enter Malaysia by irregular means in search of work. The route involves entering Thailand through Ye, and continuing from there to Malaysia.

Since the military coup, incidents of Rohingya arrests—including extrajudicial killings—have occurred frequently across the country, including in Mon State. Many remain undocumented, and some are killed without any legal processes.

According to UNHCR data, 657 Rohingya died at sea, fleeing from Rakhine State in 2024 alone. Humanitarian agencies warn that the worsening humanitarian crisis and funding cuts have severely affected the lives of Rohingya communities.
