Airstrike Hits Htawywe Village Near Kyondoe, Killing One Civilian and Injuring Several, Including a Child

-

A man was killed and at least three others, including a child, were injured when the military junta carried out an airstrike on Htawywe Village, near Kyondoe in Kawkareik Township, local sources report.

The airstrike occurred around 9 a.m. on April 18, when a YAK-130 fighter jet dropped 500-pound bombs on the village, despite the absence of any active clashes in the area.

“They dropped the bombs this morning. I don’t know how many exactly, but a man in his 50s was killed on the spot. A child lost an arm, and others were also injured. There was no fighting; they just came and bombed. The injured were taken to the hospital. These were large 500-pound bombs, and they also hit houses and a Buddhist monastery,” a resident of Htawywe said.

A similar attack occurred a day earlier, on April 17 at around 8 a.m., when a military aircraft bombed Thayettaw Village in Kawkareik Township, where no fighting was reported. The shrapnel killed a male trishaw driver.

On April 16, around 1 p.m., the junta also conducted an airstrike using a Y-12 aircraft on Myaukkanmayaik Village in the same township. The attack killed a pregnant woman and injured at least four others, including a child.

Resistance groups have urged the public to remain alert for potential airstrikes, as the military continues to target villages near Kyondoe that are not involved in any armed conflict.

Due to the ongoing air raids, residents from at least five villages, including Kanni, have fled their homes and are now seeking safety in other areas.
