Sixteen detained military junta members were killed when the Mandalay People’s Defense Force (MDY PDF) detention camps in northern Shan State’s Nawnghkio township were bombed over two consecutive days, according to an MDY PDF source.
On the night of October 28, the Military Junta launched the first aerial attack, killing 12 individuals, including a detained junta Captain.
Among the deceased were Sergeant Htet Naung Naung Soe and Captain Tun Naing from Battalion 708, along with Lance Corporal Pho Cho and Corporal Khin Maung Tun. Additionally, Sergeant Clerk Yan Naing Aung and two Pyusawhti members from Battalion 1014 were confirmed dead.
A second bombing raid on October 29 claimed the lives of four more detainees, including Major Nay Win, according to MDY PDF.
MDY PDF spokesperson Ko Aung Sa Mon said, “While we are holding the detainees according to established prisoner-of-war regulations, the Military Junta’s aerial attacks have caused unnecessary loss of life.”
The MDY PDF also reported that over 60 people were injured in the airstrikes. They continue to provide medical care for both the wounded detainees and others affected by the attacks.
