Two local youths were injured when a mortar shell exploded near Weakhami village in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, according to local sources.
The incident occurred around midday on September 15, while four youths — Naing Ngae Htoo Htoo (19), La Min Maung, Ma Zin Mar Htwe, and Nan Tun Hla — were returning from Kyaungywar village to Weakhami village. The mortar shell struck and exploded on the road connecting the two villages.
Nai Ngae Htoo Htoo suffered injuries to his right leg and left arm, while Ma Zin Mar Htwe sustained an injury to her left arm. Both were immediately transferred to the Thanbyuzayat Township Public Hospital and later referred to Mawlamyine Hospital for further treatment.
According to residents, there were no active clashes in the area at the time of the explosion, and it remains unclear which armed group fired the mortar.
The incident has raised concerns among locals as mortar attacks have been increasing, even in areas not directly involved in the fighting.
