A man named U Kyaw Naing, also known as Abig was shot dead in Kamawet Township, Mon State, on September 18 at around 4 a.m., according to local sources.
The 43-year-old victim, who lived in Seintaung ward, Kamawet, was reportedly attacked while sleeping with his family in a hut near Kamawet Creek in Gonnyin ward. Locals said an armed group approached and shot him during the early morning hours.
“He was shot in his hut on the farm. I’m not sure about his background, but it seems like he was targeted for being a military junta informant. They wouldn’t kill him if he were just an ordinary person,” said a resident of Kamawet.
U Kyaw Naing was killed with gunshot wounds to the head and back. It remains unclear which armed group was responsible for the killing or the exact motive behind it.
This incident follows a similar attack on September 4, when an armed group killed a People’s Militia leader and his son at their home in Hneepadaw village, Mudon Township.
Since the military coup, junta informants and collaborators, including village administrators, have been frequently targeted and assassinated in Mon State.
