Revolutionary forces have declared that anyone participating in the elections organized by the military junta will be labeled as junta supporters.
The resistance forces stated they would not recognize the junta-organized elections and would consider all participants as supporters of the military regime.
Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF) spokesperson Nai Naga said, “Those involved in the junta’s elections will be identified as junta supporters. This poses a great risk for them. The elections are only happening because they support the junta. Without their support, these elections would not take place. Therefore, the resistance groups have marked them as junta supporters.”
Twenty-four political parties, including the Mon Progressive Party, have announced their opposition to the elections, citing armed resistance and ongoing conflicts as barriers to holding free and fair elections.
Dr. Thiri Mon Chan of the Mon State Defense Force (MSDF) stated that all participants in the junta’s election path would be considered enemies, as they are supporting the military regime.
“We regard both the junta and their supporters as enemies. Therefore, anyone participating in the election must understand that we will not take responsibility for their safety. We must act according to our revolutionary principles and rules,” Dr. Thiri Mon Chan said.
The junta plans to hold elections in 2025. Junta Chairman Min Aung Hlaing stated during a National Defense and Security Council meeting on July 31 that security measures would be increased in regions where the elections cannot be held safely.
The resistance forces, including the National Unity Government (NUG) and various ethnic armed organizations, have opposed the planned elections by the military junta.
