RCSS Protect Stability and Citizens in Southern Shan State

-

The Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) has announced its commitment to collaborate with local communities to protect the stability of southern Shan State and safeguard the lives, homes, and property of its citizens.

This declaration was made during the RCSS’s six-monthly meeting held at its headquarters in Loi Tai Leng from July 26 to 28, 2024.

The RCSS expressed deep concern over the ongoing armed conflicts in northern Shan State, which have led to the destruction of homes and properties, fatalities, injuries, and displacement of residents. The council particularly highlighted the severe hardships faced by children, women, and the elderly due to these conflicts.

Since the military coup over three years ago, the country has experienced continuous fighting, economic decline, widespread human rights violations, and a weakening of the rule of law. This has resulted in increased criminal activities, causing significant social distress and challenges for the public, the RCSS stated.

The RCSS called for relevant organizations to engage in dialogue to implement a ceasefire and work towards establishing a federal democratic union through negotiations.

The Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS/SSA) is a Shan armed group that has signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). It is headquartered in Loi Tai Leng and operates throughout Shan State.
