Fighting between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) began on December 1st in Kawkareik Township.
The battle raged until around 12:00 noon on January 30th, with the military junta forces continuing to fire mortar shells.
Regarding the battle situation in Kawkareik Township, the commander of the White Tiger Column stated, ‘The allied columns currently control over 60 percent of Kawkareik Township.
A soldier on the ground confirmed that on January 27th, coalition forces captured the military junta camp located at the intersection of the mountain road and the camp near the 97th battalion of the military junta infantry regiment in Kawkareik Township.
Additionally, on January 27th, the military junta dropped more than a hundred bombs on Kawkareik Township and its surroundings.
During the fighting, at least 200 houses were destroyed by mortar shells and aircraft attacks from the military junta, occurring day and night, according to the locals.
According to soldiers on the ground, the military junta is continuously deploying additional troops, weapons, and food supplies to Kawkareik Township. Local people who attempt to obtain food are also being captured and used as human shields.
In the battle ongoing for almost two months in Kawkareik Township, military tensions between the joint revolutionary army led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the military junta remain high, with the fighting intensifying.
