The KNU headquarters announced that five members, including a brigadier general, were killed and one was injured in the downing of a military junta helicopter near Thin Gan Nyi Naung, Kawkareik Township, Karen State.
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the Joint Revolutionary Forces surrounded and attacked one Mi-35P Attack Helicopter and one Eurocopter 365 from the Mawlamyine Southeast Region, which had arrived at the 356th Battalion of the Infantry Regiment based in Thin Gan Nyi Naung, around 2:00 p.m. on January 29.
The KNU asserted that the KNLA and the Joint Revolutionary Forces successfully collaborated to shoot down and destroy one Eurocopter 365 belonging to the military junta during the encirclement attack.
According to the KNU, a total of five individuals, including Brigadier General Aye Min Naung, three majors, and one captain, were killed, while one individual was injured when the aircraft was shot down.
