In Launglon Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region, a military junta commander and a member of the Pyu Sawhti militia were killed, and at least three others were injured in an attack.

Military spokes people have referred to Pyu Sawhti militias as part of the “public security system”.

On August 8, around 3:00 p.m. the Launglon People’s Defense Force (LPDF) ambushed a military junta vehicle and a motorcycle, targeting a group of about 10 individuals emerging from Kyauknimaw village and headed towards Kyaukwutpyin village.

Both sides engaged in a firefight for approximately 20 minutes.

A military junta Commander, named Wai Min Thu and a Pyu Sawhti militia member named Su Kan, from a battalion stationed in Yephyu Township’s Kaleinaung Town, Kyauk Shat village, were later found dead on the scene.

Additionally, the LPDF reported that a minimum of three individuals sustained serious injuries.

“In that battle, a military junta commander perished. Additionally, Su Kan, a prominent disciple and right-hand of the renowned Pyu Sawhti leader Chit San Maung, also lost his life. Shortly after the firing began  military junta reinforcements promptly arrived, and we were compelled to retreat,” said an official of the LLPDF.

The bodies of the deceased military junta commander Wai Min Thu and Pyu Sawhti Su Kan were buried at the Kyauknimaw village cemetery on August 9.

Following the shooting, approximately 50 military junta troops arrived at Kyauknimaw village by waterway from Dawei Township.

The Launglon People’s Defense Force issued a caution to the public, advising them to remain vigilant and to avoid unnecessary travel.
