Police conduct drug seizure near Kyauk Mi Chaung Village, Ye Township

-

On August 31, the police arrested  Zarni Aung, a 31-year-old, for selling drugs from a tent at a rubber plantation near south Kyauk Mi Chaung Village, Ye township.

According to the Ye Township police station, the 39th Narcotics Task Force found a white plastic bottle containing 125 WY-labeled orange stimulant tablets (aka ecstasy pills) in the tent at around 10:45 am yesterday.

Zani Aung, son of U San Aung, who was found in possession of the pills has been charged under Section 19 (a) of the Penal Code.

An anti-drug activist from  Ye Township, commented “… drug seizures are lower than ever before.  Police are focusing on security in the city, and  violent crimes like murder are now more frequent in Ye Township. The rule of law is debilitated.  At the moment, there is an opportunity for drug gangs.”

Other recent drug arrests included the discovery of 16,770 tablets of ecstasy (valued at 838.5 lakh kyats), by the Mon State Police on August 27th.  Police stopped Hla Myo Aung while driving a HONDA FIT on Mawlamyine’s Strand road.  Charges were filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

In addition, the Mon State Police Anti-Drug Joint Team confiscated a total of 4,256 tablets of ecstasy (local price 212.8 lakh kyats) from Saw Kyaw Htoo in Mawlamyine, Bogone Ward, at the Ocean Center car park on August 19.  An additional 3,960 tablets of ecstasy were later found in his home.  Charges were filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
