The military junta has launched a major offensive in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region, deploying approximately 200 troops to two villages in the area.
On August 17, revolutionary forces attacked the Maungmagan police station in Launglon Township. The next day, August 18, junta forces from Infantry Battalion (IB) 104 and Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 403 began their counteroffensive, entering the area and initiating operations.
The offensive started with the entry of around 200 junta troops into the Maungmagan police station on the Dawei-Maungmagan road, from where they extended their operations into surrounding villages.
A representative from the Launglon People’s Defense Force (PDF) stated, “Private karaoke rooms (KTV) in Maungmagan village were set on fire. The following day, the Maungmagan police station was attacked, and soon after, junta troops began their offensive in nearby villages. The KTVs, which were often frequented by junta forces, were deliberately targeted by the PDF.”
In response to resident complaints about these KTVs, six of them in Launglon Township were destroyed and set on fire by the Bahtoo Army on August 16.
Following these incidents, reports indicate that junta troops launched offensives on Maungmagan and Pandetinn villages, causing extensive damage to local homes.
On August 21, local sources reported that junta troops advancing into Maungmagan village shot and killed a civilian.
In addition to these ground offensives, junta troops stationed at Infantry Battalion (IB) 104 and the Tawmoe Mountain area have been firing heavy artillery into the villages, further escalating the conflict.
