Facing mounting military and political challenges, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has started blaming ethnic armed groups, Pado Saw Taw Nee, spokesperson for the Karen National Union (KNU), told the Independent Mon News Agency.
Pado Saw Taw Nee stated, “The core issue is the problem he created himself. Instead of resolving political issues through political means, he chose to use violence. When he seized power, it led to further military and political problems. Now, as the entire nation revolts against him, he cannot handle it. As a result, he resorts to blaming others. He’s trapped with no way out, merely making empty statements.”
On August 5, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, in his evening address, mentioned not only the three northern allies but also the KIA, KNU, CNF, and KNDF.
Regarding the KNU, the military leader accused the group of causing significant social and economic disruption to local communities through their attacks. He claimed these actions have severed vital trade routes relied upon by the Myanmar populace, resulting in widespread suffering.
“When looking at the political landscape, there’s no progress. Militarily, the situation is dire. Ultimately, he blames us, attempting to disrupt our unity with strategic moves. However, these tactics are ineffective. It’s clear he is politically and militarily failing and nearing the end,” Pado Saw Taw Nee added.
Additionally, the military leader alleged that weapons used by armed groups in southern Myanmar are smuggled in via the Thai-Myanmar border. He also accused some foreign countries of providing financial support, food, arms, ammunition, and technical assistance to the groups opposing the military junta.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing reiterated his stance that armed conflict cannot resolve political issues, and he vowed to continue efforts to achieve nationwide stability and peace.
