More Than Ten Thousand people have been Displaced in Launglon Township

In Tanintharyi region, Launglon township, more than ten thousand residents have been displaced within a month, according to the Launglon township public administration.

Residents say the military junta has entered Launglon township since December 13th, 2023.

According to the Township administration , more than 12,000 residents from 16 villages have been displaced due to military junta columns.

A Launglon township official said, “Terrorist killings, burning people’s houses, breaking into houses and stealing public gold, silver, and valuables, as well as arresting people and forcing them to work as human shields, has been going on for about a month now. These things happen every two to three months. The same thing happened before. People who were caught trying to guide people out of the township were also killed.”

On December 13th, military junta troops entered Nyinmaw village, Launglon township, and residents fled.

On January 9th , a military junta column arrived in Nyaw Pyin village and set fire to the village, causing more than a hundred houses to be destroyed.

Local groups reported that the convoy, which included more than 100 military junta soldiers, broke into local homes and seized valuables.

The Independent Mon News Agency has not been able to confirm these home burglaries.

With the support of community leaders, residents, and the international community, the public administration of Launglon Township has offered food, shelter, and healthcare assistance to those displaced.
