As Rubber Season Begins, Prices Soar to 1800 Kyats per Pound

At the start of the rubber season, rubber prices in the Mon State market have reached up to 1,800 kyats per pound, as reported by individuals in the rubber industry.

In the market, the price of advanced RSS 1 rubber is between 1,700 and 1,800 kyats per pound, local 3 rubber sheets are priced at around 1,720 kyats per pound, and local 3 sun-dried sheets are priced at around 1,700 kyats per pound, according to the an individual in the rubber industry.

“Right now, as the rubber harvest begins, the output is still low, so we can’t set a fixed price. It’s not stable yet. We should have a confirmed price by next month. However, this year’s price is better than last year’s,” he explained.

At the beginning of last year’s rubber season, the price of rubber was only around 1,400 kyat per pound.

Despite the favorable rubber prices, rubber entrepreneurs face challenges in launching rubber resin production due to ongoing conflicts.

Furthermore, due to rubber scarcity, rubber entrepreneurs are encountering difficulties in starting their rubber businesses.

Rubber is a significant industry in Mon State, with over 500,000 acres of rubber cultivation land throughout the state.

According to the State Rubber Industry Association, the primary export destinations for rubber from Mon State are Thailand and China.
