Electricity Fees Increasing in Ye Township

-

According to the electricity distribution company in Ye Township, Mon State, electricity rates will be increased and collected in Ye Township.

In Ye Township, the Myat Thura Tun company has increased the electricity rate to 1800 kyats per unit, while Southern Myanmar Development (SMD) is now charging 1750 kyats per unit due to the rising fuel prices.

“We’re beginning this month, and we will commence collecting 1800 kyats starting next month. Previously, it was 1550 kyats. It has now been increased by 250 kyats due to the rise in diesel prices,” said an official from Myat Thura Tun Company.

In Ye Township, the price of 220 liters of diesel fuel increased from around 5 lakh kyats per barrel to over 6 lakh kyats per barrel in September, according to the company official.

Similarly, Southern Myanmar Development (SMD), situated north of Ye Township, announced a rate increase from 1500 kyats to 1750 kyats.

According to Ye Township residents, the continuous increase in electricity consumption costs is causing difficulties for businesses and local residents who rely on electricity for their livelihoods.

“I’m not happy. There’s nothing that can be done now. Kalargyi electricity (Myat Thura Tun) charges 1,800 kyats, and SMD charges 1,750 kyats. If it goes up to 2,000 kyats, what can I do? We’re all suffering. They are doing whatever they want, in collaboration with the military junta,” said a resident.

Myat Thura Tun Company distributes electricity in Ye Township and its villages, while SMD Electricity Distribution Company serves the northern villages of Ye Township.
