Military Council Convoy hits Landmines in Kyaik Hto Township

A military council convoy hit landmines on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Angbo village, Kyaik Hto Township, in Mon State.  

On the morning of January 5th, a convoy of 4 military vehicles driving from Sittaung to Kyaik Hto townships hit landmines believed to have been planted by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces. 

Local residents report that this stretch of road has become a frequent spot for attacks. 

According to a member of the KNU Thatthong District Partnership Affairs Supervision Committee, “On January 5th, at around 7:00 a.m, a convoy of 4 military vehicles driving from Sittaung side towards Kyaik Hto townships was attacked by a KNLA joint force. A military vehicle was hit and damaged. At least 7 members of the Military Council in the military vehicle may have been injured.” 

He added that the convoy that was attacked was suspected to be carrying  reinforcements to the KNU 5th or 6th Brigade.

According to witnesses, when the convoy struck the landmines, the military responded by opening fire with small arms.
