Due to the current unstable political situation, the central ceremony of the 76th Mon National Day will be celebrated briefly, according to the officials of the event organizing committee.
The event organizing committee has also been formed to celebrate the 76th Mon National Day central ceremony, which will be celebrated on February 5, 2023.
However, the venue and details of the ceremony are yet to be decided, according to Nai Min Aung Htoo, Chairman of the 76th Mon National Day Central Celebration Committee.
“This year, looking at the political situation, we have to think a lot. On the other hand, how do we stand on the current situation in our country and we have to decide on the extent to which it should be done,” Nai Min Aung Htoo continued.
The 76th Mon National Day Central Organizing Committee was formed on October 29 with representatives from most townships.
The Mon National Day celebration was previously held by each region, but since 1997, which was the Golden Jubilee, the central organizing committee was formed by the townships of Mon State, Karen State, Yangon Division, and Bago Division.
After the formation of the event organizing committee at the central level, the central ceremony has been held alternately in every township, where the Mon communities are residing, every year.
Mon National Day is based on the back date on the foundation of the 1st Mon Hongsawatoi (Hanthawaddy) Kingdom in the early first millenium by the two Mon brothers, Samala and Wimala about 1450 years in lower Burma. The day was recognized as Mon luner calender on the 1st Waning of Maik of the Mon month (Tabotwe in Burmese) in Buddha Era of 1116 as Mon National Day but it has been held since Burma’s independence in 1948.
