Counterfeiters arrested in Thaton Township

Four counterfeiters have been arrested in Auk Kyin Ward and Thudhamawadi Myothit, (A) Ward, Thaton Township.

On the night of 19 June, three counterfeit 5,000 kyat banknotes were found in a house on Ko Eain Su Road, Kan Nyi Naung Section, Auk Kyin Ward.

A local resident said, “….the house in Auk Kyin was searched first. When they found counterfeit money in that house, they then went to Myothit (A) ward. “

The  house of Than Wai, a resident of Myothit (A) ward, was then raided.

During the search of both residences, more than $8 million kyat ($4,350 USD) in various denominations were discovered including materials related to printing the counterfeit currency. 

Four people, including Than Wai, were arrested and the counterfeit banknotes and printing materials were seized. The individuals will be prosecuted and an investigation continues,  according to the Thaton police station.

Last month, counterfeit banknotes were also seized in townships in Yangon, Mayangone, Dagon Port, and Shwepyithar.
