Mon State Chief Minister & former Prime Minister to be Sentenced on May 16 on Charges of Corruption

Dr. Aye Zan, the former Prime Minister  is currently being prosecuted for abuse of power during the election.

He is facing a total of 9 charges of corruption. 

The State Administrative Council (SAC) filed nine lawsuits under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law, alleging that Dr. Aye Zan took money from business people during his tenure as Prime Minister.

On May 13, a counterclaim of corruption was also filed.

Following a hearing where both sides will be heard,  a final verdict will be handed down on May 16.

The case will be heard at the  Special Court of Kyaikmaraw Central Prison.

Dr. Aye Zan was also sentenced to two years in prison under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code for inciting civil servants to join the protest, in December 2021.
