Electricity only Available on a Rotating Basis until May

-

The State Administrative Council (SAC) held a news conference in Nay Pyi Taw on March 24.

Deputy Minister for Information,  General Zaw Min Tun, announced that electricity for consumers would only be available on a rotating basis until May,  as it seeks to increase electricity production capacities.

The Deputy Minister reported that negotiations are underway to purchase 120 megawatts of electricity from the Tapin 1 hydropower project, and 220 megawatts of electricity from the Belu Chaung hydropower plant.

Damaged electrical towers are also being repaired, according to information provided at the press conference.

In Mon State, locals say they are facing difficulties due to prolonged power outages.

An electrician in Mawlamyine said, “We are now driving according to our schedule. As mentioned above, we must follow the schedule exactly as it was ordered. How long do you have to drive like this? We do not know what to do next.”

He added that gas pipelines, hydropower and solar power projects are being expanded to increase access to electric power.
