Seven pilgrims were killed in a collision between a timber truck and a light truck at the entrance of Karen Road on the Ye-Thanbyuzayat Road on the afternoon of November 11.

At 3:30 pm, a timber truck braked and collided with a light truck that was driving along Thanbyuzayat-Ye Road.
Those in the vehicle were from Kan Pounk Village, Ye Pyu Township, Tanintharyi Region. The accident took place on the way home after Kathina in Rangoon, according to a family member of one of the victims.
“They told me they were back. I called them when I came back from Rangoon. They were happy. I could not believe it immediately,” he said.
The bodies of six women and one man were sent to a medical facility in Ye Township.
According to the Social Relief Society social media page, six others were seriously injured, and were taken to Ye Township People’s Hospital for emergency treatment.
