Juri Chai – The ballot slips for the vacant Moulmein parliamentary seat were glossy and difficult to mark, according to National League for Democracy (NLD) staff and voters. “I cast my vote this morning and noticed the ballot sheet was slick, but I was able to force a mark,” said a Moulmein resident who voted for the NLD.
NLD candidate Ko Kyi Zaw Lwin, one of the contenders for the Moulmein parliamentary seat, asserted that the glossy ballots were repeatedly encountered at polling stations in the Maung Ngan, Shwe Myaing Thiri and Mandalay Wards of Moulmein.
Since the slick paper was complicating the voting process, a request was made to the Election Commission to provide new ballots, but officials replied that there was no authorization to make changes.
Additionally, a few eligible voters who do not have ID cards planned to cast their votes using official documents from the Ward Administrative Offices, but while some polling stations permitted them to vote, others did not.
