The Mon National Representative Party will try to officially register with the Union Election Commission (UEC) by the end of this month, the 21-member Party Organizing Committee’s leader Nai Ta La Nyi told the Mon News Agency.
“The 21-member Party Organizing Committee has been established [in accordance] with the conference’s decision. The committee will meet within a few days. If possible, we will try to submit the registration by the end of May,” said Nai Ta La Nyi.
Challenges remain in the attempt to establish one Mon party at the moment due to the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMRDP) and the Mon National Party (MNA)’s refusal to recognize the recent Second Mon National Political Conference.
Nai Ta La Nyi said the Mon National Representative Party and the Political Advisory Committee will cooperate in discussing with the AMRDP and the MNP if the two parties offer to negotiate with them.
“We have said that we won’t leave behind any forces after the MNP and the AMRDP merge. They (the 21-member committee) should have waited until the merger of the two parties, but they didn’t wait for the merger. Maybe they have their own objective. There will be more difficulties since they are going to form a party. I want to say that things will run smoother if they wait for a while in the current situation,” Nai Layih Tamarh told the Mon News Agency.
He said he does not want to give his comment as anyone can establish a party and everyone has the right under the multiparty democracy system, but only the public can decide on whether or not a new party should be established in the current situation where they are demanding unity.
The New Mon State Party (NMSP)’s vice-chair Nai Hong Sar warned that the NMSP may have to change is view and leave the MNP and the AMRDP behind if they are not able to merge by the end of this year.
