A court in Mawlamyine Township has sentenced U Nyi Nyi Htwe, owner of Yar Zar Min Company, a licensed diesel fuel importer in Mon State, to two years in prison and fined him 500,000 kyat, according to sources close to the court.
The military junta arrested U Nyi Nyi Htwe, the company’s managing director, in March after accusing him of selling diesel fuel in violation of government fuel distribution regulations.
Police later charged him under Section 5 of the Essential Commodities and Services Law at the Mupon Area Police Station in Mawlamyine under case number 47/2026. The Mawlamyine Township Court handed down the two-year prison sentence and 500,000 kyat fine during the first week of July, a source close to the court said.
“In addition to the Mawlamyine Township Court’s ruling against Yar Zar Min Company owner U Nyi Nyi Htwe, separate cases are also pending at the Thaton District Court over the alleged illegal sale of diesel fuel to gold mining operations in Bilin Township,” the source said.
The source added that Yar Zar Min Company also faces a separate case at the Mudon Police Station over the alleged illegal sale of diesel fuel to fishing boats operating at sea.
Yar Zar Min Industry Company and Myanmar Energy King Company hold the tender to import and distribute diesel fuel in Mon State. The fuel is distributed through the Puma International Port Terminal in Katonepon village, Mudon Township.
Although U Nyi Nyi Htwe has been sentenced to prison, no formal action has yet been taken against Yar Zar Min Company itself.
Authorities have also filed charges under the Essential Commodities and Services Law against three other fuel business owners. They include U Sein Tin, also known as Kasin, owner of Sun Myanmar Fuel Station; U Myint Zaw Oo, also known as Zaw Oo, owner of Min Thant Fuel Station; and U Hla Win Khaing, owner of Min Than Fuel Station.
