Cooler weather may continue across all states and regions of Myanmar for about the first four months of 2026, according to weather experts.
Meteorologists said temperatures in Mon State and the Tanintharyi Region could fall by about 0.1 degrees Celsius below the annual average, bringing colder-than-usual conditions. Other states and regions may see temperatures drop by 0.2 to 1 degree Celsius below normal.
Weather expert U Win Naing said strong westerly winds at an altitude of around 18,000 feet, where temperatures can reach minus 8 degrees Celsius, are spreading cold air across the country. He explained this in a post on his social media page.

“The cold air coming from that altitude is like an air-conditioner installed high in a room, where cool air slowly moves downward and cools the entire space,” he said.
Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Rakhine, Mon, and Tanintharyi regions are expected to experience slightly lower-than-average temperatures during January and February. In other states and regions, temperatures may fall by 0.2 to 1 degree Celsius compared to normal levels.
Maximum daytime temperatures across states and regions are forecast to range between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius in January and February, and 36 to 39 degrees Celsius in March and April.
At Kyaik Htee Yoe Pagoda in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, where many pilgrims and travelers stay, temperatures from January 12 to 15 are expected to range between a low of about 14 degrees Celsius and a high of 25 degrees Celsius. Authorities have advised pilgrims to take health precautions due to the cold weather.
As temperatures continue to drop in recent days, fish farmers have also been urged to remain cautious, as lower temperatures can reduce oxygen levels in ponds and affect aquaculture.
