The residents and online users in Mon State, as well as in Yangon and other regions, have been struggling with slow and unstable internet connections since the end of October 2025. Frequent outages have made it difficult for people to run online businesses or attend virtual classes.
Many users report that platforms such as Facebook, Business Suite, and Zoom are especially affected in the evenings. VPN connections often fail due to the poor network quality, further disrupting online activities.
Service providers have cited technical issues as the cause and warned that repairs could take up to seven days. The prolonged interruptions, however, have forced business owners and students to temporarily suspend their online operations and lessons.

A language teacher in Mon State said, “Wi-Fi is essential here. In the evenings, it becomes almost unusable. Even when the line is up, it’s very slow. Tools like Google Workspace take a long time to load, and joining Zoom classes is even harder.”
Several major internet providers in Mawlamyine, including Myanmar Broadband Telecom (MBT), U9FTTH, Myanmar Net, Mytel, Maharnet, 5BB Broadband Fiber, Yatanarpon, and Atom Fiber, have reported service interruptions.
An online seller in Mudon said, “during live sales, we cannot hear buyers properly or view images clearly. Previously, bad connections in the daytime would improve in the evening, but now the internet is unstable all day, and VPNs frequently disconnect.”
The Myanmar Internet Project explained that the disruptions are caused by damage to undersea internet cables, and that backup links are being used. This has resulted in intermittent connectivity, slow speeds, and unstable connections.
Service providers have also promised to adjust monthly fees for customers for days when the internet was unusable.
