Mon National College Enhances Facilities and Power Supply

-

Mon National College (MNC) in Nyi Sar Camp which operates under the authority of the New Mon State Party has significantly improved its school buildings and electricity supply during the current academic year. According to college officials, this will lead to more effective teaching and learning.

In early July, the college installed solar panels with a capacity of 24 kVA (kilovolt-amperes) to provide a stable electricity supply. As a result, the campus now benefits from a continuous 24-hour power supply.

Buildings that had been under construction in previous academic years were completed this year, allowing classrooms to be properly established and enabling full-time classes to be conducted, said Dr. Ponnya Mon, principal of Mon National College.

“Last year, electricity was unreliable. We only had a generator, so power was available only when the generator was running. This year, with the solar panels installed, we have power 24 hours a day when there is sufficient sunlight. There are minor difficulties during rainy days, but overall, it works well, especially in the dry season. Now, students can study anytime without worrying about power outages,” the principal explained.

Currently, the college is working to secure stable internet access. Plans are underway to expand facilities, including lecture halls, parking lots, sports facilities, and student dormitories.

A third-year student at Mon National College shared that both learning and living conditions have greatly improved this academic year and that many improvements have benefited the students.

“Compared to previous years, there have been many changes. Food and accommodation are better, and dormitories and classrooms are well-planned and organised. The school policies are also more organised, with each department managing its schedule effectively. Electricity supply has become more sufficient. Regarding internet access, the responsible team is planning to ensure stable connectivity before the semester begins,” the student said.

In previous academic years, the lack of permanent classroom buildings, inconsistent power supply, and weak internet connectivity had hindered full-time teaching and effective learning.

Currently during the current rainy season, some difficulties persist due to reduced sunlight for solar power generation and frequent damage to water pipes supplying drinking water from the mountain caused by heavy rainfall, students noted.

With the ongoing enhancement of basic facilities, the principal expressed confidence that broader opportunities for international education will also become more accessible to students at Mon National College.

Dr Ponnya Mon encouraged young students from Mon National High Schools who did not pass the 2025 university entrance exam to attend Mon National College through the Pre-College Program.

Since its opening in 2022, Mon National College has been offering courses in social sciences, education (management and teacher training), leadership and management, Mon literature and culture, media and journalism, nursing, and Information Technology (IT).
