The Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP), widely known as the Kyar Phyu (White Tiger) Party, which plans to contest the military council’s upcoming general election at the union level, is preparing to open party offices in seven townships within Mon State, according to sources from the party.
On June 25 and 26, the SNDP opened party offices in Kyaikto, Mawlamyine, and Thaton townships consecutively.
A spokesperson from the SNDP told the Independent Mon News Agency that the party is also planning to open offices in four additional townships: Bilin, Paung, Mudon, and Kyaikmaraw.

“The Kyar Phyu Party will contest in every township in Mon State where elections can be held. We’ve already opened party offices in Kyaikto, Mawlamyine, and Thaton. We plan to open the remaining four in the coming days. So far, we haven’t faced any difficulties opening offices in Mon State. Everything is going smoothly,” the spokesperson said.
The Kyar Phyu Party, officially renamed the Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP), was re-registered with the military-run Union Election Commission in 2023 as a union-level party.
The SNDP plans to contest elections not only in Shan State but also in Yangon, Mandalay, Ayeyarwady, Bago, and Tanintharyi Regions, Naypyidaw, and Mon State. The party has already opened over 120 offices nationwide.
