Two siblings from Kyaikto Township were arrested by the military junta under allegations of supporting the People’s Defense Force (PDF), according to local sources.
Ko Pyae Sone Tun, a resident of Kyaikto’s southern ward, was arrested on August 12 by junta forces while on the street. The following day, his sister was also detained at their home by a large contingent of soldiers.
A local resident reported, “We heard that Ko Pyae Sone Tun and his sister are being interrogated at the Military Operations Command (MOC) 44 headquarters in Kyaikto. However, when their family went to inquire, the military denied holding them. To this day, there has been no contact with the siblings.”
On June 13, eight residents of Kyaikto, including four members of the Kawtsannai Social Assistance Group, were also arrested by the military for allegedly supporting the PDF. They were charged under anti-terrorism laws.
Similarly, in July, the military junta reportedly arrested 22 civilians in Mon State for various reasons, according to information released by the New Ra Mon Federal Force (NRFF).
