In Kyunsu Township, Taninthayi Division, military junta forces have been advancing using both ground and naval routes, according to local sources.
Approximately 200 junta soldiers began their incursion into Kyunsu Township around July 18, as reported by the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
The junta aims to control the area surrounding the Min Than-Maung Hlaw Bridge, which connects Kyunsu and Myeik Townships, to facilitate rapid troop movements, stated a Taninthayi PDF spokesperson.
“There are reports of an opening ceremony for the bridge. It might have already happened. The Min Than-Maung Hlaw Bridge links Myeik and Kyunsu, and it’s crucial for the junta’s troop movements,” the spokesperson told the Independent Mon News Agency.
The military junta is utilizing both naval support and reconnaissance aircraft in their operations.
There have been at least two clashes between the junta troops and the joint forces of the PDF in the area.
The junta is continuing their offensive through Gyoetaung village in Kyunsu Township towards Taninthayi Township, employing heavy artillery shelling on villages.
Local residents are fleeing Kyunsu Township due to the ongoing military operations, according to local sources.
