Two Informers for Military Junta Shot Dead in Tanintharyi Township

-

According to local residents, a man and a woman, both believed to be informants for the military junta, were shot dead in Anotemortone village group, Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region.

Daw Thein Ri, a 50-year-old primary school principal from the Anotemortone village group in Hton Nwe Village, was shot dead by unknown gunmen at her home on August 20, around 7pm.

Daw Thein Ri served as general staff at Hton Nwe Village Primary School, and after the military coup, became a school principal.

“She was shot because she was an informer for the military junta. Many people know about her,” said a local woman.

On the night of August 20, U Aung Ko Win, thought to be  40 years of age, from the Anotesu village group, was also shot dead by unknown gunmen at his home.

U Aung Ko Win had long been an informant for the military junta.  A number of local residents were arrested this month as a result of his informing activities, according to a local source.

Claims about their role as potential informants, the killers and any motives have yet to be independently confirmed.

Since the killings, the  military junta artillery unit based in Maw Tone village has continually  fired mortar shells targeting both  Hton Nwe and Anotesu villages up until August 21.
