140 Members of the Rohingya Community Arrested in Thanphyuzayat

According to people close to the security forces, 140 of the 145 members of the Rohingya community who were stopped near Wekami and Ywatayar villages in Thanphyuzayat Township, Mon State have been sent to Kyaikmarraw Central Prison.

On the morning of last August 11, the Rohingya community members who were being transported by 4 land vehicles near the Ye-Thanphyuzayat road near Ywataryar village were stopped and arrested.

Among those stopped 127 are males and 18 females.  123 males and 17 females were arrested under the Immigration Act and sent to Kyaikmarraw Central Prison, reported  people close to the security forces.

It appears that 5 children were separated from their parents and sent to a separate facility. 

“4 males and 1 female under the age of 10 were sent to the “Zar May Arr Zamirirakazilon Ohlon” school in Mawlamyine Township, Konchankhome Ward by the Immigration Department,” said a source.

The investigation revealed the group left a refugee camp in Bangladesh by boat. Upon their arrival in the Thanphyuzayat township, specifically Thabyaychaungwa, they were apprehended. 

In 2023,over 500 undocumented Rohingya community members were arrested in the townships of Thanphyuzayat, Mudon, and Mawlamyine within Mon State.

Since the military coup, there have been frequent arrests of undocumented Rohingya persons taking place across the country, including Mon State. Some members of this community have been killed on the street without any consequences.
