Venue for Mon National Day (Central) Diamond Jubilee Ceremony has been Changed

-

The 75th Mon National Day (Central) Ceremony, which falls on 16 February 2022, was scheduled to be held at the State Hall in Mawlamyine, however the celebration committee announced on 9 January that it will be changing the location to the Ramannarattha Buddhist University (RBU) in Mawlamyine.

Min Aung Htoo, Vice-Chairman (1) of the Celebration Committee said, “ there are a lot of reasons for the relocation. But overall, we should move on. The main thing is that you are free to celebrate in your own place rather than in this state hall. This way we can do it more widely. Using the state hall has restrictions. We are afraid this factor would make things difficult.”

The Vice Chair added this year’s event will not be as big as previous years, but there will be more convenient transportation.

Last year, the 74th Mon National Day (Central) Diamond Jubilee Ceremony was held in accordance with Covid related safety protocols that will apply again this year.

“Last year we were allowed to celebrate with a limited number of 50 people. This year, the restrictions are more lenient. Now 200 people are allowed, but there will still be covid safety protocols  in place.” added the Vice Chair.

Mon National Day celebrations are typically held in different communities, a practice that dates back to 1997.  Celebration organizing committees have been formed in the townships of Mon, Karen, Yangon and Bago divisions.

Mon National Day celebrations are held at the township level as well as at the village levels.
