Thirteen public health workers, from Mawlamyine who provided healthcare treatment to a patient now confirmed to have died from Covid-19, have been quarantined.
A 65 years old man, with diabetes died on September 7 at noon, after his respiratory tract was severely inflamed.
“The patient noted he suffered from diabetes. Then the condition of the patient became very bad. Doctors and nurses were trying to save him. Although they wore masks to protect themselves , [it was not clear at the time the patient had contracted Covid-19]. If they knew they might have been able to protect themselves even more.” said Dr. Wut Hmone, the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Health.
The patient who died was returning from Yangon. Contact tracing efforts continue to determine who else was in close contact with the individual. Dr. Wut Hmone added, “There remains the person who went to Yangon with him [the patient] and also a computer repairman…”
In addition to the health workers who provided treatment, fifteen other people have entered the Quarantine Center of Mawlamyine University.
Currently there are 19 confirmed cases of COVID 19 in Mon State with these individuals being treated at the Mawlamyine General Hospital.
