Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Damage Homes Across Mon State

-

Heavy rain and strong winds caused by a depression have affected areas across Mon State, including Mawlamyine, bringing down trees and utility poles and damaging homes, according to local rescue groups.

Heavy rain began in Mawlamyine at around 3 p.m. on September 28, followed by strong winds later in the day.

Residents said trees fell across many wards in the city, with some falling onto houses and damaging them. Fallen trees and utility poles also blocked roads in several areas.

“It had been raining since around the afternoon, and the wind picked up later in the evening. Trees fell in several wards, and some fell onto houses and damaged them. Trees and utility poles also came down on the roads, causing blockages,” a Mawlamyine resident said.

Similar conditions were reported in Thanbyuzayat Township, where heavy rain and strong winds caused trees to fall and roofs to be blown off some homes.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said the deep depression crossed south of Kyaikto in Mon State and warned of heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible flash flooding due to the storm system.
