Military Junta Bombs NUG Special Military Region Headquarters, Killing at Least Four

-

At least four revolutionary force members were killed and others injured after the military junta carried out an airstrike on the National Unity Government (NUG) Special Military Region headquarters near the border of Mon State and Bago Region on September 24, according to military sources.

The military junta reportedly used three jet fighters to carry out heavy airstrikes on the NUG Special Military Region headquarters between 11 a.m. and noon on September 24.

“The NUG Special Military Region headquarters came under heavy airstrikes by three jet fighters. At the same time, artillery shells were continuously fired from the Thein Za Yat area,” a military source on the ground said.

According to preliminary information, four People’s Defence Force (PDF) members were killed in the attack, while dozens of others were injured.

Following the airstrike, military junta forces deployed reconnaissance drones to monitor the area and continued firing artillery shells from the ground, preventing rescue operations from being carried out, according to the source.

IMNA contacted the National Unity Government for comment on the incident but had not received a response at the time of reporting.

The NUG operates 10 regional military commands under its Ministry of Defence. The Special Military Region targeted in the airstrike is mainly active in military operations along the border between Mon State and Bago Region.
