Military junta offensives and attacks targeting civilians have expanded across areas controlled by the Karen National Union (KNU) during the junta’s first 100 days, according to a report released by the KNU Human Rights Committee.
The KNU report, titled “Minn Aung Hlaing’s 100-Day Campaign of Intentional violence against civilians,” was released on August 19. It documents alleged human rights violations committed by the military during the 100-day period.
The report said the military targeted not only military positions linked to the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied revolutionary forces but also civilian-populated areas.
It said the military repeatedly selected civilian areas for attacks, including locations without identifiable military targets. The report also accused the military of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure through its weapons and tactics.
During the 100-day period, the military expanded ground offensives and frontline operations and carried out airstrikes, drone attacks and artillery shelling. It also destroyed civilian homes, carried out extrajudicial killings and forced civilians to provide labor, according to the report.
A total of 536 clashes occurred in KNU-controlled areas between April 20 and July 31, 2026, an average of about five clashes per day, the report said.
The KNU Central Human Rights Committee and Research Committee reported that 44 civilians were killed and 124 injured by military operations during the 100-day period.
The military carried out 331 air attacks using fighter jets, Y-12 and Y-8 aircraft, helicopters, gyrocopters and paramotors, according to the report. It also carried out 129 artillery attacks, 12 arson attacks and 17 other incidents.
Military airstrikes and artillery attacks destroyed 390 civilian homes, 14 monasteries, eight schools, five hospitals, two Christian churches and one clinic, the report said.
The report also said military columns entered villages and arrested 34 civilians. Civilians living near military positions were also allegedly used as human shields.
The KNU said the military committed continued serious violations against children during the 100-day period. In 14 documented incidents, eight children were killed and 11 injured, according to the report.
