A 34-year-old man who recently returned from Yangon has tested positive for cholera in Ye, Mon State, according to a source close to the township health department.
The man, who lives in Thiri Khema Ward, Ye, began suffering from frequent diarrhea on the evening of August 14 and sought treatment at Ye District Public Hospital.
A cholera test kit showed a positive result, indicating that the man had contracted cholera, according to the source.
The man is currently receiving medical treatment and his health condition has improved, a source close to the township health department said.
The man traveled to Yangon on August 7 and returned to Ye on August 10 with two friends, according to local sources.
The two friends who returned with the man have been placed in quarantine and are being monitored, the source said.
To prevent the spread of cholera, the township health department, ward administration and local social assistance and rescue groups have sprayed chlorine disinfectant around the patient’s home and surrounding area, according to local sources.
On August 13, a woman from Kyaikkhami who had also returned from Yangon tested positive for cholera and was receiving medical treatment.
