Seven Revolutionary Groups Approve Draft Political Agreement

-

Seven revolutionary groups have approved the first draft of a Common Political Agreement, pledging to work together to completely end military dictatorship and all forms of authoritarian rule and to establish a federal democratic union, according to a statement released on July 30.

Under the agreement, the groups committed to fighting together until victory by providing mutual military and political support to end military dictatorship and other forms of authoritarianism.

They also agreed to respect and recognize each other’s dignity and existence, support one another, and cooperate in their shared efforts. Any disagreements among revolutionary forces will be resolved only through peaceful dialogue and consultation.

According to the agreement, the groups will fight together not only for the liberation of their respective regions but also for the liberation of the entire country. If political negotiations with the military junta arise, the revolutionary forces will consult among themselves and respond based on the principles outlined in the Common Political Agreement.

In addition, the groups agreed to collectively respond to threats and pressure from countries cooperating with the military junta. They stated that the results of the 2020 general election should be recognized and fully upheld, not as a means of restoring the political system under the 2008 Constitution, but as a foundation for achieving the revolution’s goals and establishing a federal democratic union.

On political matters, they agreed to permanently end military rule, prevent the military’s involvement in future politics, and oppose any attempts to revive the 2008 Constitution, which revolutionary forces have already declared abolished.

They also agreed to draft and enact a constitution based on a federal and democratic system that is acceptable to all stakeholders and to establish a new federal democratic union in accordance with that constitution.

Approved by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), the National Unity Government (NUG), the Sagaing Federal Unit Hluttaw (SFUH), the Sagaing Federal Unit Interim Government (SFUIG), the Mandalay Region Hluttaw (MRH), and the Mandalay Interim Governance Council (MIGC), the agreement reflects a joint commitment among the participating groups toward their stated political goals.
