Two members of parliament from the Mon Unity Party have been approved and appointed as ministers in the Mon State government, during a parliamentary session held today.

At the First Regular Session of the Third Mon State Hluttaw (parliament) held on April 7th, a total of seven ministers for the Mon State government were approved and appointed by the legislature.

Among the seven ministers, Mon Unity Party MP Nai Layi Tamah, was appointed as Minister for Planning and Finance, and Mi Lawi Han was appointed as Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.

Nai Layi Tamah had previously been appointed to the Mon State Administration Council following the military coup and is currently serving as the state’s Minister of Economic Affairs. He was also recently awarded the Wunna Kyaw Htin title by the military leader.

Mi Lawi Han, meanwhile, is a parliamentary representative who won a seat in Ye Township through what has been described as a ‘sham election’ organized by the military.

Other ministerial appointments include Colonel Kyaw Swar Myint as Minister for Security and Border Affairs, U Tint Zaw Tun as Minister for Social Affairs, Dr. Aung Myat Kyaw Sein as Minister for Municipal Affairs, U Min Zeya Oo as Minister for Electricity, Energy, Industry, and Transportation, and U Min Myint Maung Lay as Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation.

Additionally, the parliament approved the appointments of U Myo Min Hlaing as Minister for Bamar Ethnic Affairs, U Chit Thein as Minister for Pa-O Ethnic Affairs, and U Saw Aung Kyaw Thein as Minister for Karen Ethnic Affairs.

Among the newly appointed ministers, Colonel Kyaw Swar Myint, U Tint Zaw Tun, and Dr. Aung Myat Kyaw Sein are already serving as ministers in the current Mon State government.

During the ongoing First Regular Session of the Third Mon State Hluttaw, the parliament also carried out the appointment of the Chief Minister, the approval of ministers and government departments, and the appointment of the Chief Justice and judges of the State High Court.
