The military junta has temporarily closed four fuel stations in Mon State for selling fuel without scanning Bar Code and QR Code systems, according to an official statement.
The four stations are “Swan Myanmar” in Zay Kyo Ward and “Parent Love – 01” in Nyaung Pin Seik Ward, both in Mawlamyine; “Purma Power” in Kyaikmaraw Township; and “Min Thant-9” in Paung Township.
Authorities have also taken action against those responsible at the closed stations, sources said.
A resident from Paung said some fuel stations remain closed and are not selling fuel, making it difficult for people to purchase within the limited weekly quota.
“Even though there is a limit on how much fuel we can buy in a week, we still can’t buy it because some stations are closed. At the stations that are open, the queues are getting longer day by day. Authorities should inspect why some stations are closed and not selling fuel, and take action,” the resident said.
According to the junta’s statement, a total of 17 fuel stations, including those in Mon State, Naypyitaw, Mandalay, and Yangon, have been temporarily shut down.
The closures were due to violations such as not opening stations, selling fuel without scanning codes, overpricing, and illegal sales, the junta announced on March 31.
In addition, authorities have issued strong warnings to three fuel stations in Naypyitaw, four in Yangon Region, 10 in Mandalay Region, and seven in Taunggyi.
The military junta said further action will be taken against stations that fail to comply with regulations if additional violations are found.
Fuel sales are being monitored by an Online Monitoring Center to ensure compliance with the Bar Code and QR Code system. Authorities urged the public to report violations, including station closures, failure to scan codes, overpricing, and illegal sales, through a call center, with action to follow upon verification.
