Revolutionary Allied Forces Capture Military Junta’s Winwa Base in Thayetchaung

Revolutionary allied forces have captured the military junta’s Winwa base in Mindat village along the Dawei–Myeik section of Union Highway No. 8 in Thayetchaung Township, also known as Kasaldoe Township, in Myeik–Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region. The base had been stationed there for more than 30 years.

The assault on the Winwa base began on February 7. After more than a month of fighting, the allied forces fully captured the base at around 4:00 p.m. on March 11.

During the battle, revolutionary allied forces seized weapons and ammunition from the base, according to a statement released by the Karen National Union (KNU), which also published photographs of the confiscated arms.

The base was captured by a joint force led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), including Battalion 12 of Brigade 4, Battalion 27 of Brigade 6, the Brigade 4 Special Commando Unit, T5 Battalion under Tactics 33, and other revolutionary allied forces.

According to the KNU, a total of 55 clashes occurred in 2025 between the Karen National Liberation Army and Karen National Defense Organization allied forces and military junta troops in the Brigade 4 area of Myeik–Dawei District. The fighting left 173 junta soldiers dead and 87 injured.

The Karen National Liberation Army and Karen National Defense Organization allied forces have also captured several military junta bases, including Hteehta, Mae Thamee Khee, Ee Tha Khay, Maw Taung, and Maw Ma Sar.
