8 Civilians Killed, At Least 10 Injured in One Week Due to Military Junta Actions in Thayetchaung

-

At least eight civilians were killed and more than ten others were injured within a week due to actions by Myanmar’s military junta in Thayetchaung Township, located in Myeik–Dawei District of Tanintharyi Region, according to a statement released by the Karen National Union (KNU).

The KNU reported that the junta carried out daily airstrikes in several villages in Thayetchaung Township, including Sonsinhpyar, Mindat, Kanetthiri, Pyinhpyuthar, Winwa, Yange, and Chaukchaung villages.

Within the week, the military conducted 28 bombing raids using Y-12 aircraft and eight additional airstrikes using jet fighter aircraft, the statement said.

As a result of the airstrikes, one civilian was killed and at least ten others were injured, while 11 houses were damaged or destroyed.

In addition, troops from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) – 409 reportedly arrested and killed seven civilians in Thayetchaung Township.

The military junta has continued to commit daily human rights violations in the area, causing severe impacts on the safety, lives, and property of local residents.

Due to these abuses, more than 500 local civilians have fled their homes and are currently seeking safety elsewhere.
